The Bible happens to be the best selling book of all time according to many sources. Almost every home in the Marianas Islands has at least one copy. Though Bible are plentiful one wanders how many are actually read. The popular teaching held by many is that the Bible is to be read and explained by the clergy. Many today also consider the Bible to be antiquated and irrelevant to 21st century man.
The Bible is chalk full of wisdom and inspiration!  It was written by both scholars and simple men who were called by God and it is meant to be read by everyone. Jesus promised in Matthew 7:7: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” But where does the novice begin to read in such a large book? I believe the Gospels or Good News  books are a great place to start. The book of John is a particular favorite and give us a beautiful picture of Jesus and why He came to this world.
Because the Bible is inspired by God we need to ask for His help to understand it. Always pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you as you open God’s Word.
Many want to speed read through the Bible. A more valuable way to study is to take a few verses or a passage at a time and carefully read and re-read it, meditating on the message it contains. A small portion understood well is far better than a large portion read with little understanding.  The book of Acts records that some people from a town called Berea were more noble minded because they listened to the message being preached and then opened the Bible to see if what was taught was true. Let us follow their example and open our Bibles and begin to learn for ourselves what God wants for our lives.  You’ll be amazed at what you discover!

“… every day they studied the Scriptures to see if what Paul said was really true.”
